There are still several months left in 2025, but even so, this year has been absolutely amazing so far. With new hardware released and loads of games, many of which had been eagerly anticipated for years prior, it might feel like the hype is winding down for the year. Luckily, that isn’t the case. Over the last month or so, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony have revealed their plans for the months ahead and things are looking good. From the Tokyo Game Show to several developer showcases, there has certainly been no shortage of news lately. In case you missed any of the big announcements, here’s all the major gaming news as we dive headfirst into Fall 2025!
Nintendo's September Direct
Nintendo has been flying high as of late, with the Switch 2 performing well on the sales charts, despite the lack of first-party games available. Addressing that lack of games seemed to be a high priority for Nintendo during their latest Direct presentation, held in mid-September. For starters, the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond received a release date of December 4, 2025, while a new musou action game, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will also be hitting store shelves on November 5, 2025.
However, there was a bigger focus on the year ahead, with Nintendo announcing several Switch 2 games slotted for release in 2026. This includes: a new entry in their tactical RPG franchise, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, a cutesy Pokemon spin-off called Pokemon Pokopia, a lighthearted adventure in the form of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and others. Several third-party games will also be receiving Switch 2 versions, notably Resident Evil: Requiem, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, Dynasty Warriors Origins, and more.
Of course, Nintendo couldn’t pass up the big celebration: Mario’s 40th anniversary! For this major milestone, several big announcements were made, with Nintendo’s red-hatted hero at center stage. In addition to showing some footage from the new Super Mario Galaxy movie, Nintendo also confirmed a remastered release of Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 (due out on October 2), the wacky sports game Mario Tennis Fever (2026), and a Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder (2026).
Tokyo Game Show 2025
This September also marked the start of the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, a staple industry convention held each year in Chiba, Japan. Alongside the now-dead Electronic Entertainment Expo, TGS represents one of the most exciting shows of the year, with new games and tech announced at rapid pace. This year was no different, with both Microsoft and Sony making big plays as they push towards the holiday season.
Microsoft held one of their usual showcase events, with an emphasis on all the games coming to Game Pass and third-party support from Japanese developers. Over 25 games were included in the showcase, and while several had been announced already, there were plenty of flashy new titles to admire. Square Enix offered a shadow-drop in the form of Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven, while Capcom announced that the first two games in the Monster Hunter Stores franchise will be coming to Xbox soon. While several developers showcased their Japan-themed content for games like Black Ops 7, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Age of Mythology, the big focus was on Microsoft’s newest upcoming racing game. The long-awaited Forza Horizon 6 was finally announced, due sometime in 2026, and this sequel will see players racing around the beautiful country of Japan.
Sony also showed up strong with a new State of Play showcase, and though their list of announced games was not as plentiful as Microsoft’s, the titles they presented brought plenty of hype. The biggest reveal was the gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, the very much Mature-rated action title created by Insomniac Games, due out in Fall 2026. In addition to more gameplay on the bullet hell title Saros, Sony also announced that the former Xbox console exclusive, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be arriving on PlayStation December 8. There was also some hype for the newly-revealed Deus Ex Remastered, as well as the upcoming Nioh 3 and Code Vein 2, all of which are due out in 2026.
