The Biggest Upcoming Games of 2024

2023 might have held one of the biggest barrages of new games that we’ve seen in quite some time, but 2024 is still shaping up to be another quality year of games for eager players. Whether you’re interested in high-stakes fantasy, excessive monster slaying, or some family-friendly fun, 2024 seems to have you covered. While the current schedule is a bit barren, we’ve whipped up a list of games for you to keep on your radar for the next 12 months. So, if your wallet was feeling light after the onslaught of 2023, it might be a good idea to start saving up some of your pocket change for a few new releases.

Please keep in mind that these releases are listed in no particular order. Every game included on this list is confirmed for a 2024 release, but knowing the games industry and the ever-constant disappointment of delays, it’s likely that some of these games might be pushed back. That said, we hope that your interest is piqued by some of these major upcoming 2024 video games!

The Most Anticipated Games of 2024

5. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth

Most Anticipated games

Final Fantasy VII was an absolute icon when it was released back in 1997 on PlayStation 1, and when “Part 1” of the remake finally became a reality in 2020, fans were both elated and disappointed. While the remake featured fantastic graphics, fun combat, and some intriguing twists, it abruptly ended about halfway through the original story.

That all changes when Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, the second part of the FF7 Remake, releases on February 29, exclusively on PlayStation 5. This sequel finally sets Cloud and the rest of his party loose in a huge open world, packed with missions, characters, and gear to discover. Of course, new story surprises await franchise veterans, but we recommend that newcomers give this remake a spin!

4. Princess Peach: Showtime!

Most Anticipated Games 2024

Princess Peach is like the lovable matriarch of video gaming, demanding respect with her royal grace while remaining likable and relatable. However, this beloved princess didn’t star in her own game until 2005’s Super Princess Peach on the DS, which was a side-scrolling platformer following the classic Mario Bros. formula. However, for her next big solo outing, things are about to get much more extravagant.

Although very little is known about Princess Peach: Showtime, we can obviously confirm that Peach will be the main character, and as the title suggests, will be putting on a stage play of sorts. Swapping between costumes with unique abilities, Peach must complete various “scenes”, whether they be platforming challenges, battles, or more. We can’t wait to see what creative ideas Nintendo comes up with with Princess Peach: Showtime! launches on March 22, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

3. Tekken 8

Anticipated Games 2024

Fighting games have been experiencing quite a revival in recent years, with the successful return of franchises like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and more. The last time we got a new Tekken game was in 2015, and by almost every measure, it was a stellar win. The combat was hard-hitting and brutal, the story was wild, and the online multiplayer remained entertaining as always. Now, after 9 years in the making, the next entry is ready for release.

Coming in hot and kicking off the year with a release date of January 26, Tekken 8 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. In addition to adding new fighting systems like the “Heat” mechanic, Tekken 8 looks to reward aggressive fighting, so players who like to turtle guard might want to reconsider their tactics. The game will feature 32 playable characters in its base roster, and feature multiple modes, including a cinematic story, single-player “Arcade Quest”, and other expected content like online multiplayer and practice arenas.

2. Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2

Anticipated Games 2024

Nintendo and Sony aren’t the only companies swinging hard with console exclusives, as Microsoft is set to finally release Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 exclusively on Xbox Series X/S (and PC) sometime in 2024. Developed by the masterful creators at Ninja Theory, this eerie and atmospheric action game is a direct sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which received significant acclaim in 2017, due in part to its realistic depiction of mental illness.

With constant trailers and gameplay teasers, Ninja Theory has gotten our hype levels maxed out on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. At the very least, the game looks absolutely gorgeous, offering a considerable leap in graphical fidelity when compared to other games of the current generation. Although there is no firm release date for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Microsoft guarantees that it will be released sometime in 2024 and will be available on Game Pass starting at launch.

1. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Warhammer Most Anticipated Games

Back in 2011, a little game called Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Similar in style to Gears of War, this epic third-person shooter saw you and your squad slaughtering hordes of beasts with both guns and melee weapons, all while exploring an interesting sci-fi/fantasy setting. Ever since, we’ve been waiting for something to scratch that itch, and while other games have sufficed, 2024 will finally give us a much-desired sequel.

Following the events of the first game, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 continues to tell an incredibly complex fantasy story of war and turmoil by handing you a gun and sword and setting you loose on enemies. Playable either solo or with a group of friends, this sequel promises some good ‘ol mindless action, propped up by modern graphics and processing power. Best of all, Space Marine 2 is one of the few multi-platform games featured on this list, and will be released on September 9, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
