MemCard GC

This Fancy Memory Card Makes GameCube Storage a Breeze

The GameCube is an often underrated staple in Nintendo’s console lineup, featuring some truly fantastic games. However, if you play a lot of GameCube games, you wind up needing multiple memory cards to store your data. Improving on their previous design, the masterminds at 8BitMods may have just created the best GameCube memory card ever.

Today, I’m taking a sneak peek at the MemCard Pro GC, a high-end accessory that should fit all of your GameCube storage needs. 8BitMods already has an excellent track record with their other projects, so I can’t wait to see what the MemCard Pro GC is capable of. As always, I recommend you check out my first-look video on the MemCard Pro GC so that you can see this wonderful product in action!

This Fancy Memory Card Makes GameCube Storage a Breeze

The folks at 8BitMod are no strangers to memory card solutions, as their original MemCard Pro is one of the best PlayStation accessories that money can buy. Luckily, the new MemCard Pro GC takes the existing brilliance of the original MemCard Pro, bringing all of its wonderful features to the GameCube. Complete with a microSD card slot, game-specific virtual memory cards, and more, the MemCard Pro GC goes above and beyond expectations.

The MemCard Pro GC is no slouch on the hardware side either, with a dual-core processor, built-in Wi-Fi functionality, and an updated 128 x 64 resolution OLED display. Thanks to the more powerful processor, the new display is larger and smoother than ever before, making it easy to read from a distance. Additionally, the MemCard Pro GC offers multiple ways to expand your storage, including backup hard drives and flash drives via a micro USB port.

How to Setup Your MemCard Pro GC

If you’ve purchased your own MemCard Pro GC and are looking to set it up, worry not, as the initial steps are incredibly simple. To get started, you’ll need a microSD card between 1GB and 2GB. That’s more space than you’ll likely ever need, as a 1GB card can hold the equivalent of 2,000+ standard GameCube memory cards. On a PC, format the SD card and load the current MemCard Pro GC firmware onto it. Once that’s done, simply insert the SD card into the MemCard Pro GC, turn on the system, and you’ll be good to go once the initial firmware update is finished.

Setting up the Wi-Fi is even easier, as all you need to do is turn on the MemCard Pro GC and write down the IP address shown on the display. Then, using a smartphone or PC, connect to the MemCard Pro’s wireless network, using the password “mcpadmin”. Once you’re connected, use your preferred browser to navigate to the address “192.168.4.1”, which will greet you with the MemCard Pro GC Wi-Fi setup wizard. To access the web-based UI in the future, simply enter the IP address you wrote down earlier.

MemCard Pro GC Features

In addition to its sleek design, the MemCard Pro stands out with its slew of cool features. For starters, the Wi-Fi functionality makes it easy to browse your save files and adjust various settings remotely through a web-based UI. You can also update the firmware at any point without needing to remove your SD card, which is one of my favorite features.

The MemCard Pro GC also works wonderfully with platforms like Swiss, making it a must-buy for modded console owners. When loading a game through Swiss, the MemCard Pro GC is smart enough to create a new virtual memory card for each game, or load your existing VMC instead. Future firmware updates could even add functionality like cloud-based backups, providing even more options for managing your saves.

Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend the MemCard Pro GC for any dedicated GameCube player, but it’s especially beneficial if you’re using Swiss. Not only is it a great product straight out of the box, but the potential for awesome updates in the future is vast. If you’re looking for a storage solution for the GameCube, the MemCard Pro GC is one of the very best options around.
